- There are virtually no church records for the period 1690-1695 for Maldon. Therefore, unless other information comes to light, John's parentage can only be assumed.
He states on his marriage license application ref. D/ABL/1728, the original of which is held in the archives of the Essex Records Office, that he was 35 years old. This puts his year of birth around 1693 so it would seem logical to assume that he was the son - probably the first - of John and Mary. He also stated on his license application that his occupation was a Yeoman.

Unfortunately all the church records prior to 1800 have been destroyed. However the original Licence and application have been preserved in the archives of the Essex Records Office at Chelmsford, Essex.
