| Notes |
- In 1837 a list of railway subscription contracts was ordered to be printed by the House of Commons. Among the list of names was Thomas Samuel Willingale, merchant of Phoenix Wharf, Wapping. He had the following subscriptions:-
The City Railway - 20 shares, subscription £1000
The London, Salisbury, Exeter, Plymouth and Falmouth Railway - subscrption £1250
The South Western, or Kingsworthy & West Monkton Railway - 100 shares, subscription £5000
The London-Exeter Railway - subscription £1250.
In 1844 Thomas was living in Alfred Terrace, according to an article in the Times newspaper. He was a coal merchant at the time.
In 1853 Thomas Samuel Willingale was a shareholder in the Perran Wheal Alfred Copper & Lead Mine in Cornwall. At a meeting of directors held at the office of the company, 33 Great Winchester Street, on Thursday May 26 1853 the secretary reported that "Mr Willingale has sold his interest in the mine, and therefore ceased to be a director"
In about 1856 Thomas Samuel Willingale was a part owner in the Hawksmoor Mine, also in Cornwall.

Administration of the effects of Thomas Samuel Willingale formerly of 25 Crutched Friars in the City of London but late of the City of Brooklyn, State of New York, USA who died 24 May 1869 at Brooklyn was granted to Sophia Druitt, wife of Jabez Druitt of South Grove, Mile End Road, Middlesex. The daughter and one of the next of kin.
There is an inscription to Thomas Samuel & his wife Sophia in Tower Hamlets Cemetery on the grave of his parents James & Mary.
From an article in The Sportsman dated 12th June 1869 - I observe amomg the notices of an American paper, the announcement of the fact that Mr Thomas Samuel Willingale died at Brooklyn, New York, on the 25th ult., at the age of sixty-nine. To the present generation of racing men the fact will probably have no import, for the deceased had not been seen on the English turf for many a long year. Those, however, who are unfortunate enough to have a sporting experience of some quarter of a century need not be reminded that in his time Mr Willingale was a celebrity. The mark that he made on the turf was one of the most notable, and the brief record of his death in a distant land will recall to many an old sportsman some of the most stirring events of their youth.
