Barbara arrived in Australia in 1842 on the ship Taglioni.

Barbara started her married life in St Johns Wood London where she had her first two children. Her husband John left soon after for South Australia and arrived in a fleet of 6 ships to establish the settlement of Adelaide. Included in this fleet was Colonel William Light (The Founder of Adelaide) Surveyor General (also to Christchurch New Zealand). John seems to have been well provisioned with building materials and a body of men for construction. At the time of her death Barbara had 23 g children, 5 gg children.
