    Notes
    • Lincolnshire Chronicle 17 December 1841
      Gainsburgh
On Thursday afternoon the 9th inst., as Robert Willingale, the Collector of Customs at the port of Gainsburgh, was walking along the banks of the river Trent, on the Nottinghamshire side, a boy who was walking along a keel, near Messrs. Furley?s ship-yard, at Gainsburgh, fell overboard and floated a considerable distance down the stream; what added to his danger was that the Trent is swollen some 8 or 10 feet beyond its usual depth, and the current is very strong. Mr Willingale, however, no sooner saw the boy fall in, than without the least hesitation, he dashed into the water, and after swimming nearly thirty yards into the stream, succeeded in rescuing the poor lad from a watery grave.
