  	I asked Lois Parker if she could confirm the spelling of her grandmother's middle name as in the birth indexes she is recorded as Gertrude Elaine Fursdon, although she is recorded as Gertrude Elline when she died. We had up to now assumed that the name had been misspelled and should have been Elaine. Lois said she would check with her mother and get back to me. Her mother's reply made me laugh so I decided to include it here. "Dear Lois,  On Gertrude's marriage certificate and on her death certificate the spelling of Gertrude's middle, name is Elline.  Birth certificates can give the wrong spelling as the person going to report the birth doesn't really know what the spelling of the name is.  My name on my birth certificate is Maryland.  I was shocked at age 27 when I saw my birth certificate when I applied for my passport in preparation for going to India.   I had to get my junior school to report the spelling of my name for the first 3 years of school for it to be changed.  So it is correct on my passport.  Love,  Mum"  Note: Lois's mother's name is Marilyn.

My sister has been doing some research into her and has collected a lot of information and also arranged for her name to be inscribed on the gravestone. She went into a mental institution when my dad (Reginald Parker) was tiny and his older brother very ill (probably coeliac) and never returned to normal life.
