- Known from the baptism of his daughter Sarah, found in Hockley parish records held in Southend library.
A William Downs was baptised 21 May 1780 in Wickham St Pauls.
His parents were William and Margaret.
The 1851 census for Rochford shows a William Downes (with an e) aged 70, living with his wife Sarah aged 63, a workwoman who was born in Canewdon.
He was an agricultural labourer.
Have death certificate.
He died 5 August 1859 from old age (79 years old). The death was registered by Ann Downs.
