  On 1861 census she was living in Eastwood with her parents and was aged 9. In 1881 she was living with her brother at Forest Road 7 Bay Ter, Leyton Low, Essex, England Ref RG11/1727/41/18 Alfred Burles, aged 28, a carpenter born in Eastwood, Essex, England Sarah Burles, his wife aged 25 born Mile End, London, Middlesex, England Alfred Burles his son aged 7 months born in Leytonstone, Essex, England Martha Burles, his unmarried sister aged 29, a dressmaker born in Eastwood, Essex, England Martha must have returned to Prittlewell some time after 1881 because in 1888 she married the next door neighbour of her uncle, Edward Perrin Burles. This was James Newman, a widower, with a young son born in 1877. (Marriages Sep 1888 Burles Martha Rochford 4a 459) In 1891 they were supposedly living in Shopland although I have been unable to find them there on the 1891 census. In 1901in Shopland James Newman aged 54, a farm bailiff born in White Notley Martha Newman his wife aged 51 born in Eastwood Alfred Newman his son aged 11 born in Shopland Annie Newman his daughter aged 9 born in Shopland
