Charles was a bachelor aged 29 and Mary Ann (Marion) a spinster aged 28. We know that Charles was previously married in 1878 so his stating that he was a bachelor is a lie. Both parties were living at 7 Reedworth Street, Lambeth at the time of the marriage. Charles's father was George Broughton, a grocer and Marion's father was James Wright (deceased) a master mariner. Witnesses were George Wilson and Elizabeth Lea.
