Charles was baptised on 28 August 1796 in Hockley Essex. His parents were William & Sarah Murrell.
From an article in "The Essex Family Historian", May 2002.
According to a report in the Chelmsford Chronicle, on the 8th of July 1808 a vessel belonging to Mr William Murrell of Hullbridge, Hockley, was on its return from Northfleet to Hullbridge in the evening of Wednesday se'nnight, when near the Whitaker beacon, a sudden squall occasioned a wave to break over the same, which washed the son of Mr Murrell (a boy, 12 years of age) overboard and he was drowned. The body of the infortunate youth has not since been found.
This advertisement appeared on the front page of the same issue and read: If the body of Charles Murrell a lad of about 12 years of age, who was washed overboard on Wednesday the 29th ult. near the Whitaker beacon, should be found, it is requested that the same be carefully conveyed to his father, Mr William Murrell, of Hullbridge, Hockley, Essex, who will pay a reward of 10 guineas - the said youth was dressed in a blue jacket, striped waistcoat and canvas trowsers (sic).
There was no report in the newspaper that the body was found, but Philip Benton's "History of Rochford Hundred" (1873) refers to a gravestone in St Peter's Hockley, which records the burial on 19th July 1808 of Charles Murrell 'lost in a heavy gale of wind in the Swin.... and his body being found at Harwich" | Murrell, Charles (I0715)

In 1851 Eliza George aged 16 lived with her parents, John George aged 41 a brickfield labourer who was born in Hertfordshire and Caroline George aged 34 who was born in Reading, Berkshire. Eliza was born in London.
When Eliza married Walter Shead in 1855 she gave her name as Eliza Wilson and her father's name as William Wilson. She also stated that her maiden name was Wilson on the birth cert of her son Walter Shead. When she married James Ellingford in 1867 she gave her father's name as John George. This is very puzzling.
2014 - Have discovered that Caroline gave birth to Eliza before she was married - hence she was really Eliza Wilson. She probably took the surname George after her mother married John George in 1842.

Received from Janet Codd in March 2012.
Comments: I have traced my ancestors back to Richard Horlock of Northfleet d1818. I have recently been contacted by jacqueline who I believe has also contacted you re this family. She has led me to believe that Richard may be the illegitimate son of Samuel Horlock d1796. In my research I have previously ploughed through the Northfleet parish records on Medway County Council's website Cityark. Along with records of the baptisms of my Richards children and those of Margaret and Samuel Horlock who I believe to be his brother, I also came across the following which may interest you . There are records of baptisms of the children of Samuel and Elizabeth his wife: Elizabeth April 17th 1765; Jemima Sept 29th 1767 died and buried July 24th 1768; Sally (Sarah?) July 4th 1769 and Robert Dec 5th 1774. It would seem that from at least 1765-1774 Samuel had a base in Northfleet- do you think this possible from what you know. Look forward to hearing from you. He was born on September 2nd 1925 at Hill Side, Ashingdon in Rochford RD. His father's occupation was Light Comedian.
His daughter Carolyn wrote in 2006 "my dad had beautiful white blonde hair and amazing bright blue eyes when he was a baby but his hair got darker. His height was about five eight. I have a picture of him at my brothers wedding in the seventies, and my mum and dad met while working in Sainsburys in Goodmayes Essex just before the war. "

Edwin James Wright was a tin plate worker living in Twickenham in 1880 (From marriage certificate).
He was a zinc worker, living at 7 Clements Road, Bermondsey, in 1881 (From son's birth certificate).
This was the grandfather of Dorothy Olive Wright. She told the following tale in June 1998.
Edwin James ran a cycle store in Richmond Avenue, off the High Street, Southend on Sea in the 1880s. He made cycles and also gave cycling lessons. Dorothy's mother, then a young girl, took cycling lessons and met and fell in love with Edwin's son - also Edwin James. This cycle factory was on the opposite side of the road to the shop that existed until 1964.
Edwin James (the elder) had a younger brother Bob who went to America. He wrote home about the invalid carriages and baby carriages that he saw in the States and this prompted Edwin to open a hire service, supplying these items to the public.
Wright's hire service was established in 1884 at number 1, Richmond Avenue and was demolished in 1964 to make way for a ring road. It was run at that time by Herbert Henry Wright the grandson of Edwin James the founder. The ring road was never built and at this time (June 1998) a car park stands on the site.
Further information gained from Dorothy Olive Wright in August 1998. Edwin James senior lived at Holly Lodge, Grove Road before renting 1 Richmond Avenue, Southend on Sea. He also lived at one time in Brewery Road, Southend on Sea.
Dorothy also remembers that Edwin James had two sisters, Popsie (which could be a nickname) and Ann. Popsie had a daughter Natalie, who married an Asian doctor. Ann lived in Barking at one time and gave elocution lessons. Popsie lived in Westcliff on Sea and used to visit Edwin James senior in Southend.
Edwin was born in Wants Road, Maldon, Essex - Dorothy remembers her grandfather saying he was born in Wants and had been living in wants ever since.
The 1891 census shows the following people living at 3 Albion Villas, Brewery Road, Southend on Sea, Essex.
Edwin James Wright aged 30 a gasfitter who was born in Maldon
