  Notes	Thomas was a widower & Isabella was a widow. According to the certificate he was residing at Buckingham Road, Bermondsey. ( There was no Buckingham Road Bermondsey in 1875. The marriage certificate has been copied out by the GRO and I think they have mis-read Neckinger Road for Buckingham Road). Isabella was residing at 38, Vincent Square which was the home of Thomas's brother. His father was Thomas Hayes, farmer. Her father was William Charles Murrell, master mariner. Witnesses to the marriage were William Hayes, Thomas Hayes, Eliza Hayes, Mary Barrett.

  He was baptised on 28/2/1822 at St Martins, Chudleigh, Devon and was the son of Thomas and Mary (nee Wills). Thomas senior was described as a Labourer in the parish register. 1841 census for Chudleigh (RG107/219 book 3 f 6 p 6). George Wills aged 75, a farmer Grace Wills aged 65 Henry Wills aged 20 Elizabeth Wills aged15 James Peuch ??? aged 20 an ag lab Thomas Hayes aged 15 an Apprentice Samuel/Daniel Nanny aged 15 an Apprentice Jaziel ?? Hynd aged 12 an Apprentice Richard Paddon aged 11 an Apprentice. In 1851 in Heybridge - HO/107/1778/559 Thomas Hayes aged 29, clerk to an agricultrist?, born Sidmouth, Devon Mary Ann Hayes, his wife aged 29, born in Sidmouth Mary Ann Hayes, his daughter aged 2 born in Spitalfields, Middlesex Edith Alice Hayes, his daughter aged 10 months born in Heybridge. Joseph William Lugg his nephew aged 7, a scholar born in Kensington. In 1861 in Heybridge- RG9/1090/127 A Mary Ann Hayes aged 12 (born Shoreditch) is visiting at the home of Charles and Sarah Chaplain. None of the other Hayes family members are in Heybridge. The pubs index on the internet has Thomas appearing in their records as proprietor of the "Star & Garter" in Parker's Terrace, Bermondsey from 1867 to 1880. In 1871 living at 6 Parker's Terrace Bermondsey Thomas Hayes aged 49 a licensed vict. born in Chudleigh, Devon Mary A Hayes, his wife aged 49 born in Chudleigh, Devon Mary A Hayes, his unmarried daughter aged 22, born in London Edith A Hayes, his unmarried daughter aged 20, born in Heybridge, Essex Helen Hayes, his daughter aged 17 born in Heybridge, Essex Henry C Hayes, his son aged 12 born in Heybridge Sarah Parsons, a visitor aged 21 George Wilkie, a visitor aged 27 He was a licenced victualler at the time of his marriage to Isabella Wright in 1875. He was buried in Maldon cemetery. When Isabella his wife died she was buried with him.
