1902, Pittsburgh, Wright Family, Grandma Wright, Mom - left, Uncle Did on lap, Aunt Eva right front, Uncle Bob right back Joyce says 'Uncle Did is Harold - I assume you have heard that his nick-name was "Did", supposedly because his father would ask who did something and it was always he who "did" it. The writing is in my dad's hand, so "mom - left" would be his mother, Isabella Mary Wright. Isabella, also written on many photos as Isabel or Isabell, was called "Dolly" by everyone. Her father called her Darlin', which ended up evolving into Dolly.'

| Birth Certificate of John Elmer Brose. Joyce says "You'll note that the name is blank on the birth certificate. The story I heard is that my grandmother couldn't decide whether to name him Elmer John or John Elmer, so they left it blank until she could decide. According to family lore, she didn't make up her mind on that until he was about 10 years old, when she settled on John Elmer. That is why his childhood friends always called him Elmer and later friends called him John. He was also called Bud by his mother and most of his cousins. My dad called him Watson when they were young - a result of playing at being Sherlock Holmes and Watson - and this is the name my mother called him. Later, after WWII, my dad changed to calling him Deek (short for Deacon, since John had held the post of deacon in the local VFW - Veterans of Foreign Wars)."

Edward Robert Brose Joyce says: The photo of him as a baby is marked on the back "Edward at 9 months - Note mom's fingers holding the fat boy up". At the bottom of the photo is his entry in the "Big Baby contest" when he was nearly 6 months old. He came in second, weighing 22 pounds at 5 months 19 days old. He loved to tell that story, especially since that was probably the fattest he ever was.

Edward Robert Brose Joyce says: He was in the US Army Air Force stationed at the Base Air Depot 2 in Warton during WWII. My mother had been evacuated from London along with all the other school children and sent to the north of England at the start of the war. She ended up working for the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in Lytham St. Anne's, not far from Warton, and met my dad at a dance held for the servicemen.

Grace Evelyn Wright Joyce says: According to a story I recall my mother telling me, Grace Evelyn, whom I called Aunt Eva, did not know if her given name was Grace Evelyn or Evelyn Grace until sometime in the 1960's or 1970's when my mother obtained Grace's birth certificate. My mother had gone to England to visit her family in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, and at Aunt Eva's request went to the records office and got a copy of Aunt Eva's birth certificate for her.
