COMMERCIAL DIRECTORY" PROPOSITION
Douglas Leander Morris (39). who describes himself 'as a publicity expert, was arrested in Perth yesterday by Det-Sgt. Doyle and Detective Delaney oh a charge of vagrancy.
Morris allegedly came to this State to seek advertising matter for a prospective publication "The Commercial Directory of Australia" 1930-31 issue. This is stated to be controlled by Commercial Publishers, whose head office is given as Edward Street, Brisbane, but there is a belief that Morris is running the whole show.
A number of agents, acting in all good faith, have been obtaining advertisements from business firms (cash and cheques for same) for the proposed journal. These canvassers have been told by Morris that the directory is to be published about December next, but it is noteworthy that canvassers were provided with receipt forms on which was printed:- "The publishers will not be responsible for any delays, but every effort will be made to issue the directory on the date mentioned by the representative."
Business was secured from a large number of Perth commercial bouses.
Morris has also engaged in a racehorse tipping business, issuing the "good oil" on Eastern States' events at 10/- a time. He is a fairly recent arrival from the Eastern States, where he has been engaged in a variety of ventures.
