3025 William Richard was the twin brother of Sarah Selina. Willingale, William Richard (I0358)

3026 William Walter Willingale was one of the witnesses.

Mary Ann Willingale lived in Edgware Road at the time of the marriage.
Family: William Humphrey Stanton / Mary Ann Willingale (F0600)

3027 William was a widower of full age. His occupation was floor cloth manufacturer. Family: William Willingale / Jane Philpot (F177)

3028 William was of full age, Mary Ann a minor, bachelor & spinster. Mary Ann's father was William Willingale, solicitor's clerk, deceased.
3029 William was of full age, Mary Ann a minor, bachelor & spinster. Mary Ann's father was William Willingale, solicitor's clerk, deceased. Family: William Arthur Warwick / Mary Ann Willingale (F538)

3030 William was registered on his birth certificate as "Joseph William". This was also the name he was christened with. However he was named "William" on the 1881,1891 and 1901 census's. On his marriage certificate he was named as "William Joseph".

In the Census of 1881 William was recorded as living with his parents at Woodberry Hill Loughton.

In the Census of 1891 he was recorded as still living with his parents at 176 York Hill Loughton.

In the census of 1901 he was, along with his parents, recorded as visitor at 8 Granville Terrace, Granville Road, Woodford the home of Henry Dobnoy, his wife Annie and their children and Marie Crossly, his wife Annie's mother. Also recorded as visitors were William's sister Florence and her husband George Ray.

He married Lilian Mabel Cooper in 1901 and had a number of children with her. Then by 1911 it seems he moved to Birmingham, married Edith Florence Sharman and changed his occupation to Insurance Agent. In 1915 he is back in Essex again, now a builder’s labourer, having another child with Lilian Mabel and then two years later in 1917 Lilian Mabel has another child and leaves the father’s name blank.

Then to cap it all we have William Joseph marrying an Edith Woosnam in Oxford in 1919. She was obviously Edith Chessman at birth from her father’s name. But is she the Edith Florence Sharman on the 1911 birth certificate?

I see from the death index that a Joseph W Willingale died in Surrey in 1957 aged 77. This is probably him and he is back down south again. There is also an Edith F Willingale who died in Surrey in 1951 aged 78. This is probably Edith Florence Sharman.

There is no Lilian Mabel Willingale death in the indexes so if she really had died by 1919 she wasn’t registered as a Willingale. I don’t know whether getting either or both of the death certs would help at all. We really need to see if there is a marriage for an Edith Florence Chessman to a Mr Sharman before 1911 or a Mr Woosnam sometime before 1919. This might help to ascertain if she is the same Edith.
