- Charles was a bachelor aged 29 and Mary Ann (Marion) a spinster aged 28. We know that Charles was previously married in 1878 so his stating that he was a bachelor is a lie. Both parties were living at 7 Reedworth Street, Lambeth at the time of the marriage. Charles's father was George Broughton, a grocer and Marion's father was James Wright (deceased) a master mariner. Witnesses were George Wilson and Elizabeth Lea.

He married Madge Wyand in 1911 but his widow was named Gladys in 1957 so Madge either died or they divorced some time before this.
Hayden was an actor according to his daughter's marriage certificate.
He died aged 69 in Paddington General Hospital of Cor Pulminale, Emphysema and Chronic Bronchitis. His widow Gladys Broughton registered the death and their place of residence was 7 Pembridge Square, Kensington.
