- The 1891 census for Southend shows Alice, aged 22 working as a domestic for her brother Edwin James. They were living at 3 Albion Villas, Brewery Road in Southend on Sea.
She was aged 28 when she married in 1897 which means she was born about 1869, although Steve Bush has a record from the family bible that she was born 11 June 1864. No record of her birth in 1869 found at the FRC.
In January 2009 I received a list, that had been found by Steve Bush's cousin Joyce, of James & Isabella's children with their dates of birth & death. It shows Alice's dob as 11/6/1868 - different again to the other dates we had. Looking once again in the indexes I think I have found her birth registered as Isabella Alice.

She was baptised at Maldon All Saints and St Peters aged 25.
At one time Alice lived in Egypt.
She died aged 76 on 15 December 1944 of cardio vascular sclerosis, coronary thrombosis and hypertension. Although she died at 86 St Mary Abbots Court her place of residence at the time of death was 16 Talgarth Mansions, Fulham. Discovered later that 86 St Mary Abbots Court was the home of her daughter Grace.
The death was registered by her husband R. J. Nisbet, a civil engineer.
