Grave Stone of Walter Henry Willingale

Walter Henry was the son of Joseph Willingale and Betsy Nichols who married in Maldon in 1847. Joseph was a carpenter by trade and he and Betsy raised eight children, the second eldest being Walter Henry.

In the censuses of 1871 and 1881 Walter was working as a bricklayer in Prittlewell. He was single in 1871 but was with his wife and son in 1881. He had married Caroline Elizabeth Robinson in February 1873 at St John the Baptist Church which is situated at the top of Pier Hill in Southend on Sea. Caroline was from Leigh on Sea.

By 1891 Walter was running the Spread Eagle public house in Prittlewell and continued to do so until his death in 1905.

Walter and Caroline had two children, Sidney Wallis born in 1875 and Ethel Edith born in 1877.
