Joyce says 'Uncle Did is Harold - I assume you have heard that his nick-name was "Did", supposedly because his father would ask who did something and it was always he who "did" it. The writing is in my dad's hand, so "mom - left" would be his mother, Isabella Mary Wright. Isabella, also written on many photos as Isabel or Isabell, was called "Dolly" by everyone. Her father called her Darlin', which ended up evolving into Dolly.'

  • Notes
    • Known from e-mail received from his grandson Steve Bush.

Harold was born at 2 Earlham Terrace, Wood Green, London on March or April 11, 1901. He was 18 months old on the trip over to the States. The family moved to Pittsburgh right away, apparently because that is where the job was the Uncle Charlie (William Charles) helped to set up. Harold left school in 7th grade to work, and was a sign painter, doing work for local businesses. Steve Bush remembers visiting his shop many times with the smell of oil-based paint everywhere, and he always had set-ups for the grandchildren to work on there. He remembers Harold painting the sides of trucks with company lettering and he was climbing up water towers to paint the town names (a feature of small town America) in his sixties. His hand was steady enough to keep painting in his eighties, but plastic signage and machine techniques reduced his business later in life. He died in Pittsburgh on June 19, 1989, and is buried with the rest of his family in Mount Royal Cemetery in Glenshaw, PA - a northern suburb of Pittsburgh. He married Eleanor Pearl Ziegler (b. Jan 5, 1900) on Feb 7, 1924. He met her at the Greenfield Presbyterian Church.

Harold became a US citizen in April 1943.
